I'm going a 'spiritual' pilgrimage

I created this blog as a way of making myself accountable to the things I had put on my Life List. It is a place that I can tick things off the Life List I created and write about them. I had big visions for this blog, but life got in the way and I became content with this blog just being there in the background, subtly reminding me to keep on doing things I love and tick things off my list.

So far I have been slowly getting things ticked off. But  in the next few weeks, I will hopefully accomplish a few big things off my list.

On Friday we leave to start our big U2/Birthday adventure and hopefully get #22, 23 and 24 off my list!
# 22. Go on a global U2 pilgrimage for their next/any tour
# 23. Have Bono take me up on stage (might as well dream BIG)
# 24. Get U2 to play Love is Blindness at a concert we are at

'Love is Blindness' from ZooTV Sydney.

As I have said before, husband and I are big U2 nuts. We met many many years ago because he had tickets to the U2 Pop Mart concert. And after 18 years, we are still seeing U2 concerts together.

Embarking on the U2 pilgrimage came about very suddenly about 2 months ago. We saw that there were tickets still available to the very last U2 concert at Madison Square Gardens in New York (which also happens to be my birthday). We then found very cheap flights to New York. So in the spirit of YOLO (you only live once) and my Life List we took the plunge and booked.

I CAN NOT WAIT!

This trip has also made me take the plunge and start the challenge to tick #26 off the list - "Get to my ideal weight and stay there (10kg less than what I am currently)" - because you need to look good for Bono for your birthday don't you?!
I have been seeing a personal trainer for about 8 weeks now and although I am nowhere near the 10kg mark just yet, I am feeling more toned and less chubby. I have a lot more to go, but I am happy I have finally started working on this goal.

The other items that will hopefully be ticked off are:
#81. Search for the perfect Margarita Adventure commenced
#91 Take a tour of the Eames House
#84. See Bill Cunningham at work/on his bike in NYC

I can not wait... Bono here I come!

Eames Rocking Chair Tribute on Pinterest

Given you all can't get enough of my Eames Rocker post, I thought I would embrace Pinterest and do a tribute board to the Eames Rocking Chair.

I found some more stunning pictures that I wanted to share with you all... hopefully this helps justify this chair some more.

Come over visit my Pinterest site and see my other boards.

It is very much a work in progress as I only started using Pinterest recently and I am already spending way too many hours on it!

Let me know what you think.

You can also follow me on Twitter if you like.

Not your usual Eames

An Australian inspired Eames chair with a Cockatoo [By MidCenturyChild]
As some of you may be aware, I have been on the hunt to buy some authentic Eames pieces for a while now. It is #33 on the Life List.

So in the meantime I thought I would share with you some inventive and different ways Eames furniture has been used in works of art found at Etsy.

Justifying my replica Eames RAR rocking chair purchase

This is the replica Eames RAR rocking chair I recently purchased.

As I mentioned before, #33 on my Life List is 'buy an original Eames', and I have every intention to replace this chair with an original. However in the meantime I have this fake to work with.

Ever since I purchased it for a bargain price $35, it has been living in our attic, un-loved. One reason for this is because we currently have no place to put it in our house, but the REAL reason is because Husband doesn't appreciate the chair's beauty.

My chair hidden in the dark attic

Therefore I thought I would write this post as defence to my chair, and show people why I think the RAR chair will look great in any room, especially in my house.

The RAR chair (rocking armchair rod base) was designed  in 1948 by Charles and Ray Eames and was the first commercial success of Charles and Ray Eames.

The RAR was first shown at the Museum of Modern Art in 1948, and it has remained as popular as it did in the 40's, now in 2012.

More about the chair can be found here.

The RAR chair won't be the most practical or comfortable chair you own, but I think it just finishes the room.

Don't You Think?

#33. Buy a real Eames/Hand Wegner piece of furniture

I love interior design blogs.

It all started when I was researching ideas for a day bed we wanted to build for some wasted space in our lounge room. I stumbled across Apartment Therapy and I have been a daily AT reader ever since.

Via Apartment Therapy or via other blogs, I have found many sites that I religiously read.

Here are some blogs I have been inspired to follow for a number of different reasons... great house ideas or just sheer voyeurism:

Door Sixteen
The Known Universe
Decor8blog
Made by girl
Making it Lovely
Ikea Family Live
sfgirlbybay
Bright Bazaar
House Tweaking

The houses and interior design of sfgirlbybay and Door Sixteen I most aspire to. Their houses are just stunning. Filled with old fashioned charm and modern style. I love them so.

At the moment I am in awe of the timeless Danish designs of Hans Wegner and Charles Eames . However in Australia these original pieces are very rare and EXTREMELY expensive.

I understand all the issues with buying replicas and I don't like myself that I have quite a few replicas in our home, but when there is a store that sells this furniture so close to home I can't resist.

Matt Blatt was having a second sales recently and I managed to buy a replica Hans Wegner plank armchair (with two separate chair covers), a replica fiberglass Eames rocking chair and some replica Philippe Starck ghost bar stools all for $265 (there was only some slight damage).

But as this blog is titled 'Buy a real Eames/Hand Wegner piece of furniture', I am on a mission to purchase an authentic piece of Danish furniture.

Watch this space and hopefully I will have something amazing to show you very soon.
